Chequer Mead is proud to host, support and provide a variety of educational schemes for children and adults of the local area. These include drama summer schools, work experience and theatre tours. For more information, choose an item from the list on the left.
Drama Schools
Chequer Mead is home to Chequer Mead Youth Theatre (CMYT), it’s resident young people’s theatre company, which was formed in 2005. Chequer Mead also hosts a number of drama and dance schools offering a range of education in all aspects of theatre training.
Many other drama and dance schools use the theatre’s facilities for their showcases and we welcome this type of hirer to Chequer Mead to give young people the opportunity to perform on a professional theatre stage.
The following drama schools operate on a regular basis at Chequer Mead.
CMYT
CMYT meets every Wednesday during term time and specialises in creating new pieces of work for the stage. The group also takes part in film making workshops, street performances and is lead by Pete Allen and Sue Palmer-Jones of WhirlyGig Arts.

Bullfrog Productions Youth Group
Bullfrog Youth Group (5 to 20 years) meets every Saturday afternoon from 2.30 til 5.30pm. Bullfrog Productions are a performance specific group producing at least 4 musical theatre shows every year. Students learn by rehearsal rather than in classes under the direction of their fully qualified producers, directors and choreographers. In addition to this, they also run ballet, tap, street dance and body conditioning classes every Saturday morning from 10am to 2.30pm, these classes are open to all. “Froggies” offers ballet and tap classes for the very young performers (ages 3-7) and run on a Saturday morning from 10am to 12pm.
