Room Hire in East Grinstead, Sussex
Chequer Mead has a variety of multi-purpose spaces available to hire 7 days a week, daytime and evening. We offer great rates for both one-off events and for regular hirers there are further concessions. Our regular hirers currently include theatre groups, professional tours, sports clubs and classes as well as religious organisations, community support meetings and local schools.
All of our impressive rooms are set in the Victorian part of the school building dating from 1860 and retain many original features including high ceilings, beams and large windows creating excellent, airy and light spaces. All our rooms have disabled access.
The Alfred Wagg Studio
The largest of our spaces, the Studio holds up to 200 people and is ideal for larger meetings, dance and theatre rehearsals, workshops and offers itself as a great performance space too. Fitted with a floor that is particularly suitable for dancing, the Alfred Wagg Studio is a great option for all types of rehearsals.
The Rehearsal Room
Overlooking our beautiful garden with space suitable for up to 40 people, the Rehearsal Room is a popular space for receptions, theatre rehearsals, meetings and classes. With an original high, beam ceiling and parquet floor, the Rehearsal Room is a favourite amongst many hirers.
The Meeting Room
The Meeting Room is a light and fresh, intimate room ideal for board meetings, corporate functions, training seminars and other events. Accommodating a maximum of 35 delegates, which makes the Meeting Room a popular space for business and organisations.
The Foyer Room
The Foyer Room is ideal for smaller meetings and events and holds up to 20 people. This room has great access to the rest of the centre’s facilities and is situated just off of our main Foyer.
The Pavilion
At the heart of Chequer Mead lies the Pavilion which is open daily as a bistro and coffee shop run by our resident caterers, Cusine Studio. In addition to this, the Pavilion is home to our theatre bar, which is open during the day and on show nights. The Pavilion has direct access to the garden and is in the center of the building giving it great access to all our facilities. The Pavilion can hold up to 250 standing or 80 seated for a meal. This popular space is ideal for parties, family occasions and corporate entertaining. The Pavilion is available for private hire by arrangement.
