Blog: Support the Boys in "Oh What a Lovely War" and Support the WW1 Centenary Exhibition

Thursday 17th July 2014 @ 9:19pm by Alex
Categories: Funny and Crazy Happenings, Hot Stuff, Shows, Productions and Events
Come and Join Our Troops, as Joan Littlewood's classic “Oh What A Lovely War” comes to Chequer Mead, performed by the fantastic Company of Friends. Even after 90 years on from World War 1, this satirical musical is a powerful reminder of the atrocities of a war that cost millions of lives. Told through songs and documents of the period, as well as live music, dance and sketches, it is a funny and yet deeply moving play which creates a picture of life for those on the frontline as well as those left behind. Catch this unforgettable experience on Wednesday 23rd, Thursday 24th and Friday 25th July at 7:30pm Tickets are £12.00, with concessions at £10.00 Supporting the Centenary of World War 1, we also have wonderful exhibitions, held in the Greenstede Gallery, made even more special by the generous help of renowned comedian, lyricist and artist, Richard Digance. Richard performed at Chequer Mead earlier this year and was so impressed by the Centre as well as the forthcoming events, he offered to paint a picture, to be included in the exhibition of the 1st World War exhibition. He has also produced a unique piece of music inspired by each piece of art, so that anyone buying a piece will be presented with a one-off CD to accompany the painting. Admission is free for the Gallery, so do pop in and have a look. The First World War exhibition will be in the Greenstede Gallery from 21st – 26th July Richard Digance will be bringing his own exhibition to Chequer Mead, to be on display on 8th and 9th November.
