EG Jazz Club October

< Back to Whats On

Chequer Mead welcomes Jenny Green for another East Grinstead Jazz Club featuring Peter Jones with Vasilis Xenopoulos on Tenor Sax.

Peter Jones is a high-energy jazz singer who performs regularly at jazz clubs throughout London and the south-east. His albums under his own name and with the band Zoöphyte have received excellent reviews, with tracks from the band's debut album Signs of Life played on Jazz London Radio, Jazz FM, Worldwide FM, Solar Radio and several other stations in the UK and overseas. Zoöphyte released a new EP Out of the Cave in January 2021.

Peter has recorded and performed with some of the top names in British jazz, including Roger Beaujolais, Duncan Eagles, Leon Greening, Andy Hamill, Alex Hutton, Anthony Kerr, Mornington Lockett, Henry Lowther, Misha Mullov-Abbado and Nigel Price, and he has performed with both the Remix Jazz Orchestra and the Somethin’ Else Big Band. He has also written acclaimed biographies of the jazz singers Mark Murphy and Jon Hendricks.

Tonight Peter appears alongside his long-time collaborator Vasilis Xenopoulos, with whom he has recorded four albums. Vasilis himself is one of the UK’s top tenor saxophonists. An alumnus of Berklee College, he has released several albums under his own name, the most recent of which is Dexterity, his tribute to the great Dexter Gordon. He works frequently with guitarist Nigel Price in their shared quartet XPQ. The Times has called Vasilis “one of the most fiery young saxophonists around [who] blazes a path through the hard bop repertoire.”
